Precision medicine and targeted medicine are related approaches to healthcare that focus on tailoring treatments to individual patients, but they are not exactly the same thing. Precision medicine is a broader concept encompassing the use of various types of information (genetic, environmental, lifestyle, etc.) to customize prevention and treatment strategies. Targeted medicine, on the other hand, specifically refers to the use of drugs that target specific molecules or pathways involved in a disease, often identified through molecular testing. In essence, targeted therapy is a key component of precision medicine, but precision medicine also includes other approaches like lifestyle modifications and preventative measures.
